The Whitworth

Project Image

The gallery was established in 1889 for the perpetual gratification of the people of Manchester.

The Whitworth – proudly part of The University of Manchester – is one of the largest public galleries in the North of England. It's home to a collection of nearly 60,000 works of art and design of international significance.

Our free-to-enter exhibitions present the work of major contemporary artists, historic fine art, and textiles – as well as exhibitions curated by our local communities. Our work with schools, families, volunteers, and community groups is award winning. It offers opportunities to over 250,000 visitors each year to be part of everything that the gallery has to offer.

None of this would be possible without the support of our friends and visitors.

To help us keep the gallery free for all – and continue our work with local communities – please consider making a donation today. Any amount you're able to give will make a huge difference. Thank you.
